Men’s Health/ Not Cool/ Libido

Men's Health:
Did you know that on average, men are less healthy and have a shorter life expectancy than women? In 1920 the life expectancy gender gap was only one year.  Today that difference is more than five years.

There's a reason Men's Health Week is observed each year in the week leading up to Father's Day, and it’s not just to remind men to get their annual physical.  As co-creator and former Congressman Bill  Richardson observed in 1994 when introducing the bill to Congress:

"Recognizing and preventing men’s health problems is not just a man’s issue.
Because of its impact on wives, mothers, daughters, and sisters, men’s health is truly a family issue."

According to the Men's Health Network, a national non-profit organization with a mission to reach men, boys and their families with health prevention tools, programs, and advocacy, men on average:

•Die younger -and in greater numbers-  of heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, and many other diseases
•Don’t take care of themselves as well as women do
•Are more likely to engage in unhealthy behavior
•Don’t seek medical attention when they need it
•Are less likely than women to adopt preventative health measures
•Are less likely to have health insurance
•Are more likely to work in dangerous occupations

By bringing awareness to the scope of the issue, the Men’s Health Network aims to make noise about a predominantly silent crisis in the health and well-being of men.  And while the statistics are startling, they offer some practical advice on how men and their families can help close the gap.

•Eat a varied diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat foods
•Be especially careful to limit cholesterol intake and avoid saturated fats
•Moderate exercise for 30 minutes five times a week, or vigorous exercise for 20 minutes three times a week
•Protect yourself from the sun
Moderate exercise for 30 min
•Maintain a healthy weight
•Drink at least three 8-ounce glasses of water per day
•Limit alcohol
•Don’t smoke, and minimize your exposure to second-hand smoke
•Replace your dinners with green juices (veggies).
•See your knowledgeable doctor regularly
•Know your family history and discuss it with your doctor
•Visit Ayurveda ashrams once a while to learn all about healthy habits, food, and yoga.
•If you are over 40, get a baseline PSA (prostate-specific antigen) test and monitor this periodically with your doctor
•Manage your stress.
•Get help if you need it
This year, when you wear blue, remember we’re in the fight for men’s health awareness together!  To learn more about Men’s Health Week, get in-depth materials about prevention and screenings or to find an event near you, visit http://www.menshealthmonth.org/

Five Manly Skills Every Self-Respecting Man Should Have:
A self-respecting man is one who can look at himself in the mirror and say, "I like what I see. I'm proud of who I am. I don’t need drugs, alcohol or violence to solve life's challenges. Whatever doesn't overcome or oppress me only makes me stronger. I don't have to earn a million dollars a year, and I don’t have to be the most popular person on the block. I'm comfortable with who I am." That being said, here are five skills every self-respecting man should cultivate and develop.

Situational Awareness
It's a normal human ability to observe and be aware of one's surroundings. However, it's not just a trait that top secret operatives have developed beyond what you expect. Anyone can possess it. Being aware of your surroundings can keep you or your loved ones safe and out of harm's way. The trick is to practice, practice, and practice. Every time you enter a room check the situation and make an assessment. This doesn’t mean you are being paranoid, just aware.

The Ability to Cook
Being able to cook can go a long way in helping a regular guy save money and save face when it comes to romantic dates. Let’s face it. You can’t depend on a drive-through all your life. Learn 2 or 3 simple dishes that you can entertain guests with and you will be sure to make a stir in the female community. Cooking is a life skill, and it’s viewed as a manly trait in more places than you can imagine.

Mechanical Skills
Mechanical aptitude requires that a man knows his way around a toolbox. When your car breaks down on a highway or a lonely road, knowing how to repair what's under the hood can be a lifesaver. It’s totally understood that it might be necessary to leave the serious plumbing, electrical or carpentry work to the pros. Even if living in a condo or an apartment though, there will be basic repairs that you can tackle. Having basic handyman and mechanical skills can give you a boost in confidence and a greater sense of ownership. Being a self-respecting man also means knowing when a repair job is out of your hands. For times like this, you can always turn to the professionals at National Transmissions to help with automobile malfunctions.

Self Defense
Defending yourself, a family member or someone you love will sooner or later become a necessity. It doesn’t matter how old or young you are; there will come a time when you’ll have to stand up to a bully. That bully can be a person, or it can be a situation in life. Sometimes the only way to resolve a situation is to face it head-on. Your self-esteem may depend on being able to defend yourself or others. Take a martial arts class or one that is dedicated specifically for self-defense.

Financial Skills
If you can't handle your own finances, how can you be expected to handle someone else’s? Good financial skills mean paying bills on time, never overextending your credit, and saving money for a rainy day. If you weren’t taught these skill growing up then you might have to put forth a little effort in order to obtain them.

Women admire self-respecting men that can take care of themselves. In addition to exuding confidence, you will also be more self-reliant. You’re likely to find these same set of skills in many strong-willed women and they will expect the same of you. The world can be a tough place but with the right set of skills and confidence, you can make it a little easier by respecting yourself. Other people will have a reason to respect you as well.

6 things a successful women never say:
Reality check: Successful women choose their words wisely because they know words have power. Here, six statements you'll never ever hear them say:

"I don't know how!"
The bottom line is that the brightest women are the most resourceful. They might not know how to do something, especially if it is something new, but they figure it out. They observe others who do it, they ask questions and they research. Then they get it done! We can all figure out how to do something if we make it our business to learn.

"I don't have time."
We all have 24 hours in a day—you, me, and Oprah Winfrey. It's up to us to decide how we prioritize and spend these hours. To say you don't have time for something really means you don't want to do it. A much more productive way of communicating your timing needs is being direct. Try these: "I can take that project on but I will need [X amount of time] to complete it." "Right now my focus is on X and X, perhaps Sarah is better placed to take this on at this time?"

"Yes" (to everything)
It may seem contradictory but there is an art to saying no. We can't be all things to all people all the time. We cannot commit and attend every meeting, event, and conference that we are invited to. Saying no, kindly, is a successful woman's best friend. Thank the person for thinking of you but keep your plate manageable.

"I don't get paid enough for this."
Let's be honest, who really believes they get paid "enough" for what they do? That being said, smart women do not project a disgruntled attitude. They know that in the end, more money comes as a result of going the extra mile, not the other way around. This is a defeatist and destructive comment that you should never let a manager overhear!

"It's not fair."
You've probably heard time and time again that life's not fair. Successful women do not expect it to be. They use their power to drive change and focus on what they can do, not what a victim they are. You can bet that sometimes people will get promoted over you, your boss will take credit for your work, and male counterparts will have higher pay. Successful women decide what they will stand for and waste no time complaining.

"I never take a vacation."
This is like a badge of honor in New York City. It's nuts! Sorry but the joke's on you, Miss I-work-52-weeks-a-year. Have you ever noticed how company CEOs and executives always take vacation days? Successful women make their personal time a priority and know the importance of recharging. It's crucial to our sanity, stamina, and creativity. A burnt out and fatigued colleague or leader is last on our list when we think about success and what it really means.

Natural Ways To Increase Sex Drive (LIBIDO):
The sex drive, also called "libido," begins around the onset of puberty. Whether you are a man or a woman, you may be interested in learning both short and long-term methods to increase and enhance the interest and pleasure you and your partner take in sex. You may also be seeking advice on how to regain lost interest in sex, or recover you ability to sexually perform. Lack of interest in sex causes due to aging, injury, stress, diseases, diabetes, depression, heart diseases, the use of drugs and side effects from medications. There are ways to boost your sex drive by taking a natural approach. Here's a short guide on how.

Step.1
Get some exercise. Exercise has a number of benefits to the body. It can help you lose weight, improve your muscle tone, promote testosterone release, elevate your mood and it improve your self-image. In addition, exercise helps to increase the circulation to your sexual organs.

Step.2
Do some relaxation exercises. If your lack of sex drive is due to stress, then partake in some calming activities to reduce it. Some examples include yoga, Tai-chi, Pilates, meditative breathing and enjoying nature. *Do Kegel exercises to strengthen your pelvic area.

Step.3
Try some herbal remedies. There are various herbal formulations that can be used to increase sex drive, treat impotence and cause more sexual excitement. Some of this food include blueberries, bananas, apples, walnuts, green tea, asparagus, beetroots, carrots, dates, ginger, honey, eggs, drumsticks, Yohimbe, ginkgo biloba, dong quai, Siberian ginseng, and maca.

Step.4
Be experimental with your sexual practices. Boredom can often result in a loss of sex drive. Try some new things like having sex in remote locations or using some toys. This can create interest and give you an element of interest that might have been missing.

Massage techniques can do wonders for sexual arousal particularly if you're stressed, worried or angry. Prepare the room with soft lighting and soothing music then start with a back massage.

Step.5
Consider the under-appreciated psychological component of sex drive. Sexual desire can often be triggered, or dampened, by environmental stimuli.

Avoid ruining the mood:
Remove the following types of items from your bedroom.
Photos of your parents or children (which people sometimes feel are "staring" at them). The same goes for pets who like to hang out on or by your bed. Stacks of papers, books, and work-related files (and clutter more generally).

Help to set up the mood:
Select lighting that can be dimmed or light candles. A soft, low-watt, full-spectrum bulb provides the most favorable lighting. Let some fresh air into your room and use incense, essential oils, or lightly scented candles to create pleasant smells (go for subtle smells - spraying cologne or perfume into the air can sometimes be too intense and overpowering).

Step.6
Yoga (Pranayama) does more than just get you limber—it may boost your libido, too, suggests a review published in the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy. Getting your om on makes you more familiar with your body, which in turn can help you get more in touch with your sexuality.
While the report looked predominantly at women with sexual problems, "certainly anyone can benefit," says Lori Brotto, Ph.D., the lead author. Bonus: Yoga may also improve your orgasms by increasing blood flow down there.

Step.7
Boost your libido with some foods. Sometimes you need not look any further than the refrigerator or cupboards to boost your sex drive. Some foods that can help increase your sex drive include oysters, bananas, figs, drumsticks, spring onions, asparagus, beetroots, carrots, dates, berries, goji berries, watermelons, pomegranate, oranges, apples, ginger, garlic, spinach, broccoli, egg whites, avocados, almonds, walnuts, ashwagandha, onions, green chilies, and celery. These foods release sexual hormones, they help with impotence and they also improve stamina.

*Vitamin D plays a major role in sexual drive and moods. Get more sunshine, if there any vitamin D deficiency, take the supplements in the morning after having breakfast for better results. Zinc and B complex vitamins are equally important.

Step.8
Throw away the cigarettes. Smoking is already known for its damaging effects on the lungs, but it can also decrease your sex drive as well. When you smoke, oxygen that is required for blood circulation is being depleted. This lack of circulation affects all areas of the body including the sexual organs.

Step.9
A glass of wine can lubricate a nervous first-date situation. By reducing anxiety and stress one small drink can help get you in the mood for sex. But beware, alcohol is a depressant, too much booze and you can end up with quite the opposite problem.

  • Omega-3 foods like walnuts, flax seeds, tofu, chia, edamame, kidney beans, pumpkin seeds, cashews, broccoli are great for the brain. Turmeric and tomatoes also have properties in them that protect your brain.
  • 16 hours of intermittent FASTING is a must on every single day for overall good health physically and mentally.
  • Staying connected helps the brain. Studies show even having 1 close pal provides a sense of purpose, keeps brain sharp, lowers Stress.

  • Meditating/Reiki reduces stress, allows better blood flow to brains frontal cortex, that's an area we use
    Coconuts for healthy Brain/Memory
to make decisions. Tip to stay focused in a meeting is to meditate/calm down for a few minutes prior to the meet. Studies show it boosts attention span.
  • Engage Your Brain: Crosswords & Puzzle games are good, but learning a new language is a better way to challenge the brain, keeps it sharp.
  • The study says Coconut oil can tremendously boost brain function and cognitive performances like understanding, memory, learning, perception, comprehension help prevent Alzheimer's.
  • Soak overnight in water (tiny Almonds (non-GMO), Walnuts, Dry Green Raisins. The next day morning mix it with black pepper and take it with Almond or Cow's Milk.
  • Challenge yourself:  "The number one memory complaint people have is that they're bad with names," says neurologist M.Fotuhi, M.D., Ph.D. "People need to stop whining and realize they can do it!" His prescription: Memorize three names a day — such as those of an announcer on TV, a person in your company and a key player on your favorite sports team. Mentally connect each new name with an image.
  • Organic egg white are rich in 'Choline', which is an essential nutrient for brain regulation, nervous system and cardiovascular system.
  • A2 Ghee helps in enhancing intelligence and memory power.
  • Exercise actually helps prevent Alzheimer's later in life more than brain and memory games. Any type of exercise is good, your brain doesn't care what you do as long as you do something.
  • Walnuts for healthy Brain
  • Poor posture and too much computer time could cause your tension headaches. Good posture, and taking frequent breaks, benefits brain function.
  • Stay away from Carbs, Salt, Sugar, Garlic and Gluten grains (wheat & white) flour Bread/ Chapati. *Ensure the bread grains/chapati you eat are gluten-free.
  • *When cell phone battery is down to the last bar, Don't answer the phone, as the radiation is 1000 times stronger, affects the brain.
  • Studies have found that the human brain works best when
    the stomach is empty
. Researchers found that an empty stomach produces ghrelin, a hormone that carries the message to the brain that the stomach is hungry. The interesting thing is that this hormone performs other functions as well. Ghrelin stimulates and heightens the performance of the hippocampus, the region in the brain that handles learning, memory, and spatial analysis, for keeping us alert, active and focused. This, of course, doesn't imply that we should never eat, but rather points to the fact that we need to be conscious of how much we eat. **"You shouldn't keep eating through the day. If you are below thirty years of age, three meals a day will fit well into your life. If you are over thirty, it is best to reduce it to two meals a day". Our body and brain work at their best only when the stomach is empty. Be conscious and eat in such a way that within two-and-a-half hours, the food moves out of the stomach bag, and within twelve to eighteen hours, it is completely out of the system. If you maintain this simple awareness, you will experience much more energy, agility, and alertness. These are the ingredients of a successful life irrespective of what you have chosen to do.
  • AVOID Brinjal (Egg plant) vegetable completely.

YOGA For SHARPENING MEMORY - An ancient old custom....

During Ganesha Chaturthi festival we come across a unique custom especially in South India where, the devotees perform squats (sit-ups) holding their left ear with the right hand and right ear with the left hand.  Religiously this is done as a mark of respect and obeisance to the elderly God Sri Ganesha (Ganapathi).  This convention we come across not only during Ganesha Chaturthi festival but also whenever a devotee visits Sri Ganesha temple or worships Lord Ganesha.
This action is referred to as Thorpikarnam or Thoppukarnam. In Telugu language it is called Gunjillu.  In fact this is an Indian culture that we come across in ancient Gurukula system of education where Gurus (teachers) asks their pupils to practice this technique.  Even most us would have come across in schools even today, teachers asking students to perform this action as a token of penalty for not performing homework or for not answering a question or for making noise in the class room.   Let us see what is the logical/scientific reasoning behind this technique?

The physical body is a complicated subtle electronic equipment; when proper energy wiring connection is made, it produces the right results. The right ear lobe corresponds to the left brain and the left ear lobe corresponds to the right brain.

When the right ear lobe is gently squeezed with the left thumb and left index finger with the thumb outside, it produces the necessary energy connection. This connection causes the left brain and pituitary gland to become energized and activated.

Similarly, when the left ear lobe is gently squeezed with the right thumb and right index finger with the thumb outside, it produces necessary energy connection, which causes the right brain and pineal gland to become energized and activated.

This ancient Indian custom and practice has been reinvented and is being endorsed across the world as Super Brain Yoga, a technique to stimulate and energize and recharge the brain and its functioning.

It is based on the principles of subtle energy and ear acupuncture holding the ear tips. Sit-ups would activate the Mooladhara Chakra and raise the energy levels in the body. In fact, the Hindu customs of Ladies/Gents wearing ear studs/rings at the tip of the ears is based on the above concept. It increases the blood flow in the memory cells in the brain and stimulates neural pathways via acupressure points in the earlobe sharpening the intelligence. It is being practiced and prescribed as a therapy for all ages to enhance health.

Benefits of Super Brain Yoga…

It helps in the smooth functioning of the brain.
It improves memory and enhances the thinking capacity of the brain.
It revitalizes the brain and increases mental clarity.
It helps in releasing the tension and calms the brain.
It acts as a stress buster; relieves mild depression and anxiety.
It helps in fueling and sustaining a healthy brain.
It improves focus and concentration levels and enhances balancing skills.
It is believed to work for children with disabilities like Autism, Dyslexia…
It can even help in getting rid of aggressive behavior.
It is used as an intervention to support student success.
It is prescribed for Kids with hyperactivity and older adults with cognitive issues, memory loss...

It's a simple and easy technique that can be practiced at home.

Nails in the Fence..Moral Story

Once there was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.

The first day the boy had driven 36 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all.

He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.

The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.

The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence.. He said, 'You have done well, my son', but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. But It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound will still be there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one.

Remember that friends are very rare jewels, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us.

Health Benefits of SLEEP

Improves Memory & Creativity
Your mind is surprisingly busy while you snooze. During sleep you can strengthen memories or "practice" skills learned while you were awake (it's a process called consolidation). In other words if you're trying to learn something new -- whether it's Spanish or a new tennis swing -- you'll perform better after sleeping.

Live Longer?
Sleep affects the quality of life.. the better good night sleep will lead to full day active.

Reduces Inflammation
Inflammation is linked to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, arthritis, and premature aging. Research indicates that people who get less sleep -- six or fewer hours a night -- have higher blood levels of inflammatory proteins than those who get more.

Sleep Keeps Your Heart Healthy
Your heart will be healthier if you get between 7 and 9 hours of sleep each night.

Glows your skin
Your skin improves, and Wake up to gorgeous face after the good night sleep.

Sleep May Prevent Cancer
People working the late shift have a higher risk for breast and colon cancer. Researchers believe this link is caused by differing levels of melatonin in people who are exposed to light at night. Light exposure reduces the level of melatonin, a hormone that both makes us sleepy and is thought to protect against cancer. Melatonin appears to suppress the growth of tumors. Be sure that your bedroom is dark to help your body produce the melatonin it needs.

Be A Winner
If you're an athlete, there may be one simple way to improve your performance: sleep.

Improve Your Grades
Children between the ages of 10 and 16 who have sleep disordered breathing, which includes snoring, sleep apnea, and other types of interrupted breathing during sleep, are more likely to have problems with attention and learning, according to a 2010 study in the journal Sleep.

Sharpens Attention (Alert)
A lack of sleep can result in ADHD-like symptoms in kids. A 2009 study in the journal Pediatrics found that children ages seven and eight who got less than about eight hours of sleep a night were more likely to be hyperactive, inattentive, and impulsive.

Have A Healthy Weight
If you are thinking about going on a diet, you might want to plan an earlier bedtime too.

Lowers Stress
When it comes to our health stress and sleep are nearly one and the same -- and both can affect cardiovascular health.

Avoids Accidents
Insufficient sleep for just one night can be as detrimental to your driving ability as having an alcoholic drink.

Steer Clear Of Depression
Sleeping well means more to our overall well-being than simply avoiding irritability.

Naps Make You Smarter
Napping during the day is not only an effective and refreshing alternative to caffeine, it can also protect your health and make you more productive. A study of 24,000 Greek adults showed that people who napped several times a week had a lower risk for dying from heart disease. People who nap at work have much lower levels of stress. Napping also improves memory, cognitive function and mood.

The Lesson From A Donkey!

Lesson:
One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well.
The animal cried helplessly for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.
Donkey
Donkey
He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him.

They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well.

At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly...
Then, to everyone's amazement he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well.
He was astonished at what he saw.
With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing.

He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up.

Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

How To Cool Down From Redness Face: Usually when under hot sun, cheeks go bright red and start burning. Also it becomes red when in situations of blush, nervous or scared. Over time even under mild sun exposure damages skin and makes sensitive. Find the cause, and one of the causes of skin redness is an allergic reaction. Consider your recent routine and think about the cosmetics, skin care products, and hair products you use. Cut back on all of them and slowly reintroduce them back into your routine one by one. This way, you can determine which might be causing your skin to break out in a bright patch of red.
Tips to avoid face redness: You can press a cool cloth on your face to make it less red. *Electric mist fan or Air coolers are the best option to cool down. *Run your wrists under cold water. Blood runs close to the surface of the skin in your wrists, so running cold water on them is very effective - as the cool blood will then travel around your body! This is a great way to cool down if you're at a wedding, or an event where you don't have much time to spare. *Use natural organic sunscreen lotion to block UV rays falling on the face. Choose a formulation of at least SPF 30 that's designed for sensitive skin. Soy moisturizer helps to diminish skin redness and inflammation. *Dryness can cause redness or make redness worse. Wash your skin with cool water and fragrance-free cleanser, then pat on a lotion made of mint, ginger, turmeric, rose, or cucumber. These ingredients have all been shown to soothe irritated skin, and lotion provides a protective barrier against dryness, wind and other irritants. *Eat cooling, hydrating foods. There are some dietary changes you can make to help with the redness from the inside. Hydrating, cooling foods like carrots, sweet potatoes, apples, celery, coconuts, cucumbers, melons, peaches, papayas, spinach, and broccoli contain antioxidants capable of moisturizing your skin from the inside out. *Don't rub your skin, which can make redness worse. *Apply an oatmeal mask. Oatmeal is great for soothing many different causes of redness, from sunburn to eczema to simple irritation. *Each night, apply Coconut oil + Lavender oil onto your face, paying special attention to problem spots that feel extra rough or that are extremely red. You can also use olive oil, almond oil, or rosehip seed oil. They have similar nutrients to coconut oil and will help hydrate your skin. *Use Aloe Vera gel. Aloe vera has properties that help reduce inflammation and relieve pain associated with red, irritated skin. You can use the gel from an aloe vera plant or buy it over the counter. Apply the Aloe gel to your face twice daily to help decrease the redness.  *Avoid alcohol, particularly red wine. Alcohol is dehydrating, and dehydrated skin is more prone to irritation and redness. *Drink pure water throughout the evening to avoid dehydration. So make sure you drink lots of water. Fruits and vegetables have high water content to avoid dehydration, and omega-3s have anti-inflammatory properties. *Put cucumber on your face. We've all heard of putting cucumber on your eyes as a way of relaxing and soothing eyes - but putting a piece of cucumber on your forehead can help you to cool down too! *Find a quiet, cool place to lay and have some relaxing cucumber time for 15 minutes. *Try putting your moisturizer and any other lotions you use in the fridge, when you put them on they'll be lovely and cool and with have a soothing effect on your skin. *Run cold water through your hair and face. Put a wet towel or scarf on your neck. *Wet a towel or scarf with cold water, rinse it out and place it on the back of your neck - you'll be surprised at how soothing it feels!   *Use a cooling spray. Try one of the many cooling products that are available - sprays like Magicool are effective at cooling you down - although the effects don't always last long. Any product that has mint in it will also make your skin feel refreshed when you apply it. *Petroleum Jelly is used to improve your skin in four ways: 1) Helps face in soothing dryness, flakiness and redness. 2) Heals wounds in minor cuts and scrapes. 3) Smoothen and supple skin, best used as a moisturizer applied to damp skin after a shower. also works in healing diaper rashes on babies. 4) Helps healing your cracked feet and hands.
